Manchester Derby Review

The much awaited Manchester derby was played at Etihad stadium and Manchester City proved victorious over Manchester United.

Two goals from Sergio Aguero alongwith one each from Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure helped the Citizens seal an emphatic 4-1 win over the Red Devils.

United's journey to their city rivals couldn't get any worse, the latter outplaying the former in every department. A terrific late strike from in form Wayne Rooney proved to be a small consolation for the visitors but they couldn't stop City from taking all the three points from the game.

City were too strong for United technically, tactically and physically and blew them away with four goals in the first 50 minutes to put the game beyond reach. The absence of Robin van Persie from the visitors' squad made headlines, with the Dutchman omitted with a groin strain.

The only bright point for United after a dreadful derby was the performance of goalscorer Wayne Rooney. But they face a tough challenge to retain their Premier League title this season considering their early run of fixtures.

A lot was speculated over City being slight favorites to win the game and they proved the speculations right. They have now won four of their last six games against United and lost just two. Manuel Pellegrini's men must be quite happy with yesterday's result.

Saire May - now "Marmite"

Marmite devotee changes name by deed poll

One man loves Marmite so much that he’s changed his surname by deed poll to match the yeast spread.

Saire May – now Marmite – made the leap to show his ‘devotion and passion’ to the dark brown paste.

I’m not exactly sure how old I was when I first tried Marmite, but I just remember eating it as far back as I can remember,’ he said.

I like the smell, the taste, the texture. I think I pretty much like everything about it.

The 38-year-old North Shields resident said that he easily gets through a jar a week and even has a plethora of Marmite paraphernalia including limited edition jars, cufflinks and a recipe book dating back to the Second World War.

Speaking to Chronicle Live he added: ‘My family think I’m mad. However my mum just shrugged her shoulders, she expects this kind of thing from me. I already have plenty more Marmite-mad ideas in the pipeline and will continue to do my bit to spread the love and help End Marmite Neglect.

Marmite is currently running a parody campaign to ‘end neglect’ of unused jars in people’s food cupboards.

The brand is calling on people to do all they can to raise awareness to ‘prevent cruelty, alleviate suffering and promote kindness to all Marmite jars’ with one woman getting a giant Marmite jar painted on to the façade of her house while a father-daughter duo branded their sheep in Marmite colours.

iPhone 5S sold out within minutes in first day of trading

The painful wait is finally over for thousands of die-hard Apple fans, as the brand new iPhone 5S prepares to fly off the shelves in its first few hours of sale.

Shops opened this morning to snaking queues, bursting with people eager to get their hands on the latest Apple model in addition to its smaller, budget version, the 5C.

Some devotees had even been camped outside an Apple store in central London’s Regent Street since Monday evening – three and a half days before its release date.

Seventeen-year-old student Gad Harari had pitched himself at the front of the queue in a makeshift tent and claimed that he would not sell his spot for less than £1,000.

Talking about the new iPhone he spoke of its attraction and said: ‘I think it’s amazing. It’s cool, it’s new and it’s sci-fi.’

The two handsets were revealed last week much to the anticipation of the tech company’s worldwide followers.

The 5S comes in gold, silver or ‘space’ grey, while its other new functions include a fingerprint scanner.

However, many have had to walk away from stores this morning bitterly disappointed.

Shop workers had to walk down and give golden tickets to those in the queue, each with a unique number until they reached the maximum number of handsets the store actually had available.

Queues in Cardiff were so large this morning that one phone store sold out of its handsets five minutes before even opening its doors.

Twitter users have taken to the social media site to vent either their fury at losing out, their joy at obtaining one, or even simply bewilderment at the efforts some fans have gone to.

Mark Allman said: ‘#iPhone5S Crazy fool saying no to £500 for his place in the queue #crazyfool.’

n Liverpool, the phone seems to have gone already too: ‘Didn’t manage to get a device, but Apple staff kept everyone in the loop to avoid unnecessary waits,’ said Andrew Fong who had been in the queue at Liverpool One shopping centre.

The release comes amid criticisms over Apple’s new operating system, iOS 7.

Some have deemed it too hard to navigate, while many others struggled to even download it.

Beyoncé pulled off stage by crazy fan in Sao Paulo, Brazil

A Beyoncé fan went too far Sunday night, pulling the singer off the stage during her performance in Sao Paulo.

Security reacted promptly, quickly pulling Beyoncé back to the stage, but the situation had all the signs of turning ugly as the shirtless fan was forcefully escorted from the venue. The performer, though, reacted with grace and tact, calming the crowd and saying that "everything is all right."

In fact, the singer took it a step further, shaking hands with the fan, saying, "Thank you. I love you, too." The performance then continued with a huge approval of the crowd, who chanted "Beyoncé, Beyoncé."

Britain's Biggest Burger...

Feeling hungry? Britain’s biggest burger unveiled

With a name like the Apocalypse Burger, there can be no coming back for anyone brave enough to tackle this giant meat feast.

Restaurant owners Dave Cossar and Justin Meaney might need some bigger plates after creating Britain’s biggest burger.

The 11kg (25lb) monster meal at JD’s Grill in Plymouth contains 25,000 calories and was created to celebrate the restaurant’s one-year anniversary.

It took three chefs six hours to prepare and cook the jumbo burger which contains £150 worth of ingredients.

The burger was originally created to celebrate our anniversary but we are looking at how we could put it on the menu,’ explained Mr Meaney.

Beefy: Britain's biggest burger was an astonishing 25lb, contains 25,000 calories and took two hours to cook

We would have to find a way to bring the price down a little and make it easier to build and cook in the kitchen without compromising on the quality of the ingredients.’

He added: ‘We served it up to about 14 or 15 people and they absolutely loved it.

‘It was one massive burger, and a real sight to behold – but an hour later every last bite had gone.’

*Electric Zoo festival cancelled* after two people die.

The final day of Electric Zoo, an electronic music festival taking place in New York, has been cancelled after two festival goers died.

According to the New York Post, officials cancelled the event after a man and a woman died on Saturday (August 31) from unknown causes. However, local police say they believe the deaths were caused by ecstasy. A further four festival punters are in a critical condition in hospital.

A statement issued by New York officials read: "Due to serious health risks, the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall's Island on Sunday, September 1st has been cancelled. The City recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed.

"During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals. Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event."

In a statement posted on the festival's official website, organisers added: "The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend. Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today."

Sunday's line-up would have featured performances from Diplo, Steve Aoki and Sebastian Ingrosso among others.

Shay Given close to completing Liverpool switch

Given nears Liverpool switch

Liverpool are closing in on signing their second goalkeeper of the summer as a deal for Aston Villa’s Shay Given nears completion.

The Irish stopper has been overtaken as the Villans’ no.1 by Brad Guzan over the past year and is now set to act as back-up for Simon Mignolet, who moved to Anfield earlier this summer.

Given nears Liverpool switch

The former Newcastle goalkeeper still has three years remaining on his Aston Villa contact and remains one of the highest earners in Paul Lambert’s young side, meaning Villans owner Randy Lerner would be keen to let Given depart.

He has also been linked with a host of loan moves this summer, with the likes of Doncaster Rovers – who have since signed Ross Turnbull – interested in his signature.

Teddy Bear beats World Record Skydiving

Many thought Felix Baumgartner’s world record feat of skydiving from the edge of space could never be beaten by another human being and they were probably right  - but nobody said anything about a teddy bear.

The toy, owned by balloonist David Akerman, managed to improve on Baumgartner’s record by 31 metres after falling from 39,000m.

Babbage the bear was guided up to the tremendous height by a weather balloon and then released by a Raspberry Pi computer it was being operated by.

The toy, owned by balloonist David Akerman, managed to improve on Baumgartner’s record by 31 metres after falling from 39,000m.

‘There was little wind at the launch site, and both payloads landed in fields within 100-200 metres of a road.

‘The only issue really was that as Babbage was descending we lost 3G as my SIM card ran out of credit! Fortunately we managed to add a top-up before we lost contact with Babbage.’

The toy’s flight was recorded by a camera attached to its shoulder which managed to catch striking images and video.

One Direction And The Angels?

COULD One Direction really be heading for the Victoria's Secret catwalk as this year's headline act? Rumours abound this morning that the British boys - who are currently in the grip of a worldwide media frenzy thanks to the launch of their first film, This Is Us - will be hitting the catwalk along with the label's Angels in November.

The official line from the brand when we called this morning was that they "can't confirm anything" until this year's act is announced, but the image of the boys dancing alongside Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lindsey Ellingson et al has proved almost too exciting for the band's faithful Directioners to bear.

Justin Bieber headlined last year's show, which attracted 7 million television viewers - following in the footsteps of acts including including Maroon 5, Rihanna, Jay Z, Katy Perry, Nicky Minaj, Kanye West and Bruno Mars. The One Direction booking would confirm their status as this year's biggest act.

Simon Cowell looking forward to being a Dad?

He's the daddy of the worlds biggest TV talent shows, but Simon Cowell has broken his silence and finally confirmed his impending fatherhood, admitting he is ‘proud’ at the prospect of becoming a dad.

'Proud' Cowell finally confirms impending fatherhood

The 53-year-old music mogul is expecting his first child with 36-year-old married New York socialite Lauren Silverman, who split from her husband and Si’s pal Andrew Silverman in the wake of the baby news.

Until now both parties have remained tight-lipped but last night Si finally confirmed the happy news.

Things are changing in my life right now, for the better,’ he said. ‘I’m proud to be a dad.

He continued: ‘It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it.

She [Lauren]‘s a very special girl,’ Cowell added to the BBC.
At an X Factor press conference in Los Angeles earlier this month, Cowell had played it very coy over the rumours he was to father a child.

I haven’t read the newspapers,’ he told reporters at the time, adding: ‘Did I miss anything?

Top 5 V Festival Moments...

This weekend hosted a range of popular pop and indie acts at this years V Festival. With the likes of Beyonce, Kings of Leon, The Saturdays & The Script to name a few, this was a line-up not worth missing!

But not to worry, here are our top 10 moments from this years V Festival. Enjoy!

Beyonce V Festival
Beyonce flaunting her several V Fest outfits

1.) Before her set had even started, ladies favourite Beyonce was booed having arrived over half an hour late for her set - meaning her show was to be cut short - leaving the crowd very disappointed.

The show included five costume changes, with a spangly bodysuit, a green flapper dress and a black sequined combo among her outfits.

5ive will make you get down now!

2.) The reunion circuit has finally caught up with 5ive who, spurred on by the success of their ITV comeback performance, lost their festival virginity to a full capacity Arena Stage crowd with hits like Keep On Movin’ and When The Lights Go Out making everyone get down.

Stereophonics made a huge comeback this year at V!

3.) Battling wet conditions at Weston Park, Stereophonics marked a comeback summer with a bold Virgin Media Stage set.

Leaning heavily on their recent album, Graffiti On A Train, they still found time to turn to delve into their ‘big bag’ of classics, like Mr Writer and set finale Dakota.

Kings of Leon new album "Mechanical Bull" released soon.

4.) Nashville rockers Kings of Leon gave their best festival show in years as they returned to V Festival, united and stronger than ever, ready to let go with their forthcoming album, Mechanical Bull.

Two Door Cinema Club return.

5.) If, like most people, you missed them at V Festival back in 2009, Two Door Cinema Club returned this year with plenty of treats, including their new Madeon produced single, Changing Of The Seasons, and a handful of indie rock anthems, each made for the dancefloor.

10 Ways To Enjoy Monday...

This is how most of us feel on a Monday, but you can turn that frown around by following these 10 ways to enjoy your Monday...

...Monday.

1.) First things first, whilst getting ready in the morning, take some time out to put on your favourite feel good track, and dance around like a complete fool! We have a few suggestions for you if you're stuck

2.) Fill your device with loads of new music. Break the usual Monday morning routine and listen to something brand new, who knows, it might just make your Monday completely different!

3.) Order something off the Internet. Treat yourself to a new book, CD or item of clothing - give yourself something to look forward to during the week. It's better than opening bills!

4.) Go on to Google and type "Pomeranian" - if that doesn't leave you smiling then I don't know what will!

5.) Treat yourself to the yummiest hot beverage, head down to Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero - whatever your preference, just buy it and see how it feels to take that first sip.

6.) If your room is a mess, don't just leave it a tip. Pick up the clothes and the chocolate wrappers and give your space some positive energy with a tidy up.

7.) Scoff some cookies, be sure to say "Nom, Nom, Nom" as you eat them. Otherwise Cookie Monster won't be best pleased...

8.) Watch trash TV. The last thing you want to do is think on a Monday. Stick on some TV programmes, such as "You've Been Framed" - something really daft that'll have you giggling throughout.

9.) Compliment somebody. The best way to feel great about yourself and for others to feel great is to say something nice about them. Treat people as you'd like to be treated.

10.) Make a conscious effort to smile. Science tells us that it'll only increase your mood!

Smile, it's a cute cat!

Panda Parents peer at newest addition "Yuan Zai"

 photo socialsites_zpsdf789d87.png

High Five? Anybody?

Proud panda father Tuan Tuan and mother Yuan Yuan have been keeping a watch over their newborn cub ‘Yuan Zai’ at Taipei Zoo in Taiwan.

They could see the youngster, who was given her nickname because she resembles a rice ball, has inherited its father’s narrow black ring on its back and, like its mother, the new arrival’s middle and third finger are merged together.

The eager parents have been kept away from their new daughter so far because she is currently being kept in isolation.

But the adult pandas are allowed to view Yuan Zai periodically from a window on the side of her room.

She won’t be allowed to be viewed by the public for another six months and is still currently in an incubator.

Zoo keepers said the panda cub, which weighs 243.4 grams, was doing well and growing every day.

The cub was born on July 6 after Yuan Yuan was artificially inseminated.

Yuan Zai will receive an official name in the upcoming months.

Chimpanzees escape from Twycross Zoo

A Leicestershire zoo has managed to avert a mass chimpanzee escape bid by using ice cream and fizzy drinks to tempt the wayward animals back into their cages.

Chimpanzee relaxing at Twycross Zoo, Leicestershire.

Twycross Zoo has since reopened after the incident earlier this morning in which a group of chimpanzees got into a 'secure service area' of their enclosure while being transferred.

A police spokesperson reassured the public that "everything was now in order".

The zoo's website confirmed that the incident "required closure of the Zoo whilst keepers encouraged the chimps back into their normal living areas with ice cream and fizzy drinks."

The statement continues: "At no time were the public at risk, and no people or chimps were harmed during the incident, however it is part of our safety procedures that we close the zoo whilst such events are resolved."

"Investigations will commence internally now the situation has been resolved into how the animal escaped."

"The Zoo reopened at 11.30am today and all of the chimps are fine, if not a little excited about having ice cream for breakfast. They are all on view to the public as normal."

Leicestershire Police said the incident had occurred as eight chimps were being rehoused and that officers were called as a precaution.

Real Madrid sign Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad for £34m

Real Madrid have signed Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi after agreeing to meet his buyout clause of around 39m euros (£34m).

The Spain Under-21 international, 23, has signed a six-year deal at the Bernabeu, subject to passing a medical.

"I came to the conclusion that it was an offer I couldn't refuse. It's a unique opportunity," Illarramendi said.

"It hasn't been an easy decision; it has been very difficult for me because Real Sociedad have given me so much."

Illarramendi came through the youth ranks at Sociedad, and helped the club finish fourth in La Liga last season to secure a place in the Champions League.

He then played every game as Spain Under-21s won the European Under-21 Championship in Israel earlier this summer.

Illarramendi is Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti's fourth signing of the summer after Isco joined from Malaga for £23m, Dani Carvajal moved from Bayer Leverkusen and Casemiro's loan deal from Sao Paulo was made permanent.

Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay was reluctant to sell Illarramendi.

He said: "We have a very important year ahead of us with a young coach (Jagoba Arrasate) and we wanted all our players to stay.

"We told Real Madrid that we wouldn't negotiate, and we said the same thing to Asier and his agents. We fought very hard for him to stay and it's been a difficult few days because we really wanted him to stay."

Lady Gaga to make return at iTunes Festival?

 photo socialsites_zpsdf789d87.png

Lady Gaga is set to make her live comeback at the iTunes Festival later this year!

The pop sensation was forced to postpone her "Born This Way" tour dates to have hip surgery and has been out of action since February.

But the US diva is reportedly set to return to the stage at London’s Roundhouse in September as part of the iTunes Festival.

According to The Sun, her Haus Of GaGa team are spending £500,000 on the production, so it'll be a night to remember!

A source told the paper: ‘The gig in Camden has a huge budget and is likely to be the first anyone sees or hears of her album.

The Haus Of GaGa team have been working in secret on costumes and stage sets for the show from their base in Paris.

‘Gaga’s dancers have also been rehearsing but she’s only told her closest friends about the new direction she’s taking.’

They added: ‘The music is going to be a big departure and Gaga’s dreamed up a whole new image for the album.’

Kings of Leon, Elton John, Tom Odell, Queens of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys are just some of the acts who have already been confirmed for the iTunes Festival.
